How Do I Fix a Windows I/O Memory Error Caused By Turning Off the Pc Without Letting It Shutdown Normally?

My girlfriend turned off her computer while windows xp was shutting down. It takes forever to load up (at all) and it doesn’t work properly. I get the following error message when it starts up - Svchost.exe - application error The instruction at 0×500ef357 referenced memory at 0×500ef357. The required data was not placed into memory because of an I/O error status of 0xc000009c. Does this mean that the memory got fried, or is it possible that I can just need to clear the RAM?
